If you
are looking for a casual, yet flexible garment option, the sports jacket is your answer.
Sports jackets, or sport coats, were originally worn during hunting and other outdoor sport
as casual attire, but their flexibility and style allowed them to evolve into casual wear for
almost any occasion including business and recreational purposes.
If
you're a person that cannot see yourself wearing a suit daily to work, then a sports jacket
is an excellent compromise. They can be worn to a restaurant or that all important business
meeting, while allowing you to look appropriate, yet casual.
If you
have an important personal meeting, big date or even a job interview and you are unsure of
what to wear, you can throw on a sports coat and all will be well.

They are generally dark or neutral colors that allow them to go with practically
any other garments you may have in your wardrobe. They can be worn with any type of undershirt including tees,
button down shirts, and even sweaters, making them ideal for any weather and any occasion. With a nice pair of
slacks for work or nice fitting jeans for a date, sports coats will prove their versatility time and time
again.
Sport coats are typically made from sturdier materials than suits; these include woolen tweed,
houndstooth, cotton or a cotton polyester blend, or corduroy sportcoats. These materials
are great because they are breathable and allow you to wear your sports coat for long periods of time without
much discomfort.
Although the colors for sports jackets are generally muted, the choices are normally limited to
the seasons, so for winter wear men normally go with a black or navy coat and for spring/summer many are seen
wearing a tan color. Although this is not a rule, and many men generally only have one sports coat, for variety
this is normally the style.
If you just want a single
sport coat, go with a color that can be worn all year round and with any other garment you choose. For added ease
and wear, it’s good to find a sports coat that is stain resistant and wrinkle free. Chances are men won’t wash
their sports coat very often and seldom use an iron to get it crisp and smooth, so it’s best to find a coat that
will last a bit longer between washes.

Sports coats are always confused with a blazer, and with good reason, but there a few minor
differences that separate the two. The confusion arises because both blazers and sports coats don’t require
matching pants to be worn along with it. The main differences are that a sport coat may be patterned and have
different textures, whereas a blazer is normally a solid color such as black or navy and made of a smoother
fabric.
Large department stores will carry a wide selection of sport coats. Give each jacket a try, along
with your usual choice of shirt and pants. Find the coat that best works with your body type and matches most of
your favorite colors and style of clothes. In no time, you and your sports coat will be a hit at any affair and the
versatility of it will prove itself time and time again.
